Sra Kaew which means "crystal pond" is one of four old ponds in Korat downtown. Sra Kaew situated near Wat Sra Kaew Temple, you can see the white wall of the temple on one side of the pond. Regarding wikipedia the other three ponds are Sra Maew, Sra Kwan and Sra Bua.

So where are the other three ponds? Have they been built over?
ReplyDeleteI have no idea :-(
ReplyDeleteWith the help of GoogleEarth and a productive lunchtime, I have been able to find out some more. Sra Kwan is directly opposite the post office on Atsadang Road. Right behind the post office, on Yommarat Road, is another pond, but there is no name sign. It must be Sra Bua or Sra Maew. So that leaves one to find! Could it be the pond which is part of Wat Phra Narai?
ReplyDeleteI do a little search, found that the pond at Wat Phra Narai is Sra Bua. Seems you know Korat very well now ;-)
ReplyDeleteExcellent! The mystery is solved. Sra Kwan is on Atsadang Road opposite the post office; Sra Maew is on Yommarat Road right behind the post office and Sra Bua is the pond at Wat Phra Narai. I have to say, Sra Kwan was quite nice, but Sra Maew was (here are some good English words for you) fetid and turbid. Really unpleasant. All the ponds need some tender loving care.
ReplyDeleteI think I know Korat quite well now. I like to have an encyclopedic knowledge of every place I live in.
