National Corn and Sorghum Research Center

The National Corn and Sorghum Research Center was established in 1969 with its total area of 2,589 rais.
When the Inter-Asian Corn Program was mouved to locate in Thailand, the National Corn and Sorghum Research Program was organized in late 1966 by the cooperative efforts of the Ministry of Agriculture, Kasetsart University and the Rockefeller Foundation at Suwanwajokkasikit Student Training Center.
In 1969, the National Corn and Sorghum Research Center was Officially founded. In 1989, the National Corn and Sorghum Research Center was reshuffled to be under the Kasetsart University Research and Development Institute (KURDI) until 1992. After the establishment of the Inseechandrasatitya Institute for Crops Research and Development (IICRD) until 1992, The National Corn and Sorghum Research Center was transferred to the IICRD with the same responsibility and status.
Mission of The Research Center
To research on corn, sorghum and other crops in corn and sorghum cropping systems.
To provide training for bachelor degree student from Kasetsart University and other institutes including student exchange program.
To supply academic services and transfer technology to public and private sectors.
To serve research services and facilities to faculty members, researcher and students from Kasetsart University and other institutes from both public and private agencies.
To produce and distribute of high quality seeds and planting materials of the mandate crops to public and private sectors.
The Research Center composed of 5 official units : Student Training unit, Academic Services and Technology Transfer unit, Research Service unit, Seed Production and Multiplication unit.
The National Corn and Sorghum Research Center located on Friendship (Mitrapap) road about 155 km northeast of Bangkok in Pakchong district, Nakhonratchasima province.
ศูนย์วิจัยข้าวโพดและข้าวฟ่างแห่งชาติ (ไร่ข้าวโพดสุวรรณ)

ในปี พ.ศ. 2508 มหาวิทยาลัยเกษตรศาสตร์ ได้รับมอบไร่ "ธนะฟาร์ม" ซึ่งเดิมเป็นไร่ของ ฯพณฯ จอมพลสฤษดิ์ ธนะรัชต์ อดีตนายกรัฐมนตรี จากกรมธนารักษ์ กระทรวงการคลัง ซึ่งมีพื้นที่ประมาณ 2,500 ไร่ จึงได้จัดตั้งเป็นสถานีฝึกนิสิตเกษตร ชื่อว่า " สถานีฝีกนิสิตเกษตรสุวรรณวาจกกสิกิจ" เพื่อเป็นเกียรติแก่หลวงสุวรรณวาจกกสิกิจ ปฐมอธิการบดีของมหาวิทยาลัยเกษตรศาสตร์ โดยมี ดร.สุวรรณ เกษตรสุวรรณ เป็นหัวหน้าสถานีคนแรก และให้สังกัดอยู่กับคณะเกษตร
ต่อมาในปี พ.ศ. 2509 มูลนิธิร๊อกกี้เฟลเลอร์ ได้ให้ความช่วยเหลือโครงการข้าวโพดและข้าวฟ่างในประเทศแถบเอเชีย (Inter-Asian Corn and Sorghum Program) มหาวิทยาลัยเกษตรศาสตร์ จึงได้ร่วมมือกับกรมกสิกรรม(กรมวิชาการเกษตรในปัจจุบัน) ดำเนินการวิจัยและพัฒนาข้าวโพดและข้าวฟ่างภายใต้ความช่วยเหลือของมูลนิธิร๊อกกี้เฟลเลอร์โดยใช้พื้นที่ของสถานีฝึกนิสิตเกษตร สุวรรณวาจกกสิกิจแห่งนี้เป็นศูนย์กลางการปฏิบัติงาน ซึ่งต่อมาได้จัดตั้งขึ้นเป็น ศูนย์วิจัยข้าวโพดและข้าวฟ่างแห่งชาติ เมื่อวันที่ 22 ตุลาคม 2512 โดยสังกัดอยู่กับสำนักงานอธิการบดี มีนายอัญเชิญ ชมภูโพธิ์ ซึ่งเป็นหัวหน้าสถานีฯ ดำรงตำแหน่งผู้อำนวยการศูนย์วิจัยข้าวโพดและข้าวฟ่างแห่งชาติด้วย
ในปี พ.ศ. 2522 มหาวิทยาลัยเกษตรศาสตร์ ได้จัดตั้งสถาบันวิจัยและพัฒนาแห่งมหาวิทยาลัยเกษตรศาสตร์ขึ้น ทั้งศูนย์วิจัยข้าวโพด และข้าวฟ่างแห่งชาติ และ สถานีฝึกนิสิตเกษตรสุวรรณวาจกกสิกิจได้โอนย้ายมาสังกัดสถาบันวิจัยและพัฒนาแห่งมหาวิทยาลัยเกษตร ศาสตร์ สถานีฝึกนิสิตเกษตรสุวรรณวาจกกสิกิจ ได้เปลี่ยนชื่อเป็น สถานีวิจัยสุวรรณวาจกกสิกิจ เพื่อให้สอดคล้องกับภารกิจที่เพิ่มขึ้น คือการวิจัยเพื่อพัฒนาการผลิตพืชไร่เศรษฐกิจของประเทศ แต่ก็ยังคงงานฝึกนิสิตซึ่งเป็นภารกิจหลักไว้
ต่อมาในปี พ.ศ. 2535 มหาวิทยาลัยเกษตรศาสตร์ ได้จัดตั้งสถาบันอินทรีจันทรสถิตย์เพื่อการค้นคว้าและพัฒนาด้านพืชศาสตร์ ซึ่งเป็นสถาบันวิจัยเฉพาะทางขึ้น ทั้งศูนย์วิจัยข้าวโพดและข้าวฟ่างแห่งชาติ และ สถานีวิจัยสุวรรณวาจกกสิกิจ ก็ได้โอนย้ายมาสังกัดสถาบันอินทรีจันทรสถิตย์ฯ
