Korat Song (Pleng Korat)

Korat songs are performed during a celebration. It can also be performed especially for Tao Suranaree in return for her helping to fulfill ones wish.

Korat songs are performed in a 3 X 3 theatre with 2 male singers and 2 female singers dressed in traditional costumes. The song begins with the singers introducing themselves, paying respect to their teachers, courting, enjoying nature, retelling known stories and ends with parting and saying farewell.

The song clearly depicts the life of different people in the society. Not only is it a form of entertainment, but it also is a form of communication among members of the society. Moreover, like other folk songs, it contains knowledge about the local ethnicity, language, ideas, culture, tradition and philosophy of life.
